Mary started Greenfield in 1998 after 17 years of varied experience at the local and regional level in North Carolina. She offers clients a variety of skills, including economic development planning, client and project management, strategic planning, leadership development, and existing industry program development.
Her expertise in economic development at the local level and in coordinating federal/state/local assistance for major projects are essential to offering clients a complete approach to economic development projects.
Mary has worked in all types of economic development structures: in a County Department, directly for County Commissioners, within a Chamber of Commerce, and in a non-profit corporation. She has also been a Board Member of a regional organization. These varied experiences give her unique insight into the demands on local economic development programs and staff—making her extremely successful at project negotiations at the local level.
A Cum Laude graduate of Duke University, she is recognized as a Business Retention and Expansion expert and has taught this module for the NC Institute of Government. She is passionate about rural development, advocating for focused development strategies and funding to increase economic opportunities in smaller communities.
