Greenfield's Robin Spinks recently participated in a legislative briefing sponsored by the North Carolina Petroleum Council in Raleigh, NC. Todd Snitchler, VP of Market Development for the American Petroleum Institute, led a discussion of the role and impact of the natural gas industry in North Carolina which was followed by a moderated panel discussion with Ryan Combs (Research Triangle Regional Partnership), George Baldwin (Baldwin Consulting Group), Robin Spinks (Greenfield), and Chris Johnson (Johnston County Economic Development).
David McGowan, Executive Director of the North Carolina Petroleum Council and Southern Region Director for the American Petroleum Institute shared his thoughts with Ms. Spinks concerning the event: “Ryan and those of you on the panel very clearly made the connection between reliable, affordable energy supply and successful economic development recruitment and retention. I don’t think we can stress that component enough and Robin your maps were particularly effective in that regard. Robin, I also thought the Brunswick example you gave of them being at the end of the line and not having volume to support high demand prospects was eye opening. George, I’m also glad you stepped back to the map to point out that we are currently solely reliant on Transco and need better redundancy of infrastructure as well as diversity in the geographic location of our supply. All of that leads to the resiliency component you also discussed. Chris, your examples of the percentage of prospective employers needing natural gas was extremely helpful and I also thought the example of Pharma manufacturing need that firm uninterrupted supply was instructive.”
The North Carolina Petroleum Council is a division of API, the only national trade association representing all facets of America’s oil and natural gas industry. API’s more than 600 members include large integrated companies, as well as exploration and production, refining, marketing, pipeline, and marine businesses, and service and supply firms.
